Screw on the safety - What is it?

I'm replacing the safety on my Mossberg 500 and it is one of those weird screws that needs to be turned backward or something....what is it called and can I get the driver at Home Depot or a convenient hardware store?

I am not sure exactly what part you are talking about but if it is just a reverse threaded screw, you just turn it the opposite way with regular tools.

It is simply a one direction screw driver slot. It is a proper direction thread. It is just intended to keep folks from unscrewing it and messing up operation or losing parts. I have had mine back out with little force unscrewing it.

Go to Harbor Freight and get a set of Security Bits. All three sets are all on sale now: $5.99, $7.99 & $9.99. One of them has gotta have an appropriate bit.

Aren't those sacrificial screws? With a security bit, they come out, but can't be used again in a security application since the special bit forms a slot. Around here, they are commonly used in the assembly of toilet room privacy partitions.

Mossberg wouldn't have used that type of screw if they wanted the average shooter to be messing about with it.
