scratch in stainless

a careless slip of the driver and I left a bad gouge in the stainless on the side of a S&W revolver...(my own)...anyone have good tips for removal of this mess I have made? thanks.
 
A deep gouge is there forever. A scratch can be buffed out with a cloth wheel and jeweller's rouge on a bench grinder.
 
A deep gouge would require so much metal removal that it would probably leave a noticeable dished out area.

The best you could do is have either S&W or a REAL professional re-finisher polish it out.

DO NOT trust this to a local, since metal removal without leaving a thinned or dished area requires a true pro with experience.
