Scout scope options

I'm in the market for a (preferably American made) scout scope. I've been looking for a way to scope my K31 but don't like the idea of the offset mounts that clamp to the side of the receiver. Especially because they clamp to the far side of the rifle.

I found a very nice locally made scout mount at a local gun show last weekend that mounts above the rear sight. It even has a small gap so that the irons can still be used.

Now I need an optic. I found the Leupold Scout and the Burris Scout models, but I'm also kicking around a Burris 2-7 handgun scope because I like the look of their ballistic plex reticle. Does anyone know of other options that would have enough eye relief? I haven't measured yet, but I'm guessing that the rear of the mount will be about 10 inches away.

maybe

You may or may not get correct eye relief w/ handgun scope and a scout mount. I have read that some have done it succesfully. Seems to depend on the entire rig in question.

I have not owned a Burris Scout scope, but have looked through one and felt the field of veiw was pretty small.

I have run a Leupold Scout for several years now, and its FOV seemed much improved over the Burris. I see now where Leupold is alleged to be marketing a Scout scope that is a variable, not sure of the "X" count, ...

1.75 to 5x ......something like that. Should address the low power criticism of the 2.75x scouts. FOV will likely shrink as the x count goes up.

I like my Leupold 2.75 Scout and its chunky German #1 reticle plenty.

Thanks guys. I didn't know you could get the Leupold with a post reticle, that's got me thinking about one. All they list on their website is a duplex. There's a gun shop not far from me with a pretty big selection of handgun scopes. I think when the tax return rolls by I might swing in with some measurements in hand and see what they've got.

reticle change

Leupold will swap reticles, for about $60.00 and do it for most models..

Call first, confirm they can do it for the model you have.......most anything in the past 20 yrs or so and you will be OK.

A check of their website, and the custom shop options, will provide their reticle choices, which is pretty extensive.
