"Scout" Rifles, Model and Caliber

We are all familiar with Jeff Cooper's ideas behind the scout rifle.

.30 caliber military/widely available cartridge
Lightweight (I believe he said around 7 lbs.)
Forward mounting scope
Etc.

What are your favorite rifles that fit the bill? Any other caliber besides the .308, .350, and .375?
 
I currently have a GSR. I like it, and contrary to some, It carraies well. I like the magazine also. I have it topped with a Leupold Scout scope.
 
There's a whole discussion of scout rifles, just down the page. Go there and read. LINKY! The short answer today is Ruger and Savage. Some folks are putting forward mounted scopes on lever actions. Some folks consider AR type rifles to be the modern iteration of a proper scout rifle.
