Enfield "Battle Scout"....
Hello. A few years ago, I got a brand new, unfired Enfield No.4 MkII for a decent price. Before firing a shot, I took it to my gunsmith and had the following done.
1. Cut bbl to 20" and recrown.
2. Install a Williams front sight compatable with the "battle" peep on the rear ladder sight.
3. Do a trigger job and install a stop.
4. Mount a Leupold 2X pistol scope on the bbl. This was done with a mount attached to the rear, thickest portion of the bbl.
5. Black parkerize the gun.
Certainly, this exceeds Col. Cooper's weigh limit and the caliber is not .308, but it's a pretty darned neat little repeater that can be fired accurately faster than some might realize.
With certain handloads, I was pleasantly surprised to get groups of about 1.25 to 1.5" at 100 yards on average. Sometimes, I'd get an inch or less, but usually about 1 1/4".
I don't try to jack this one up on the hot end of the envelope; just enjoy it for what it is. These are neat little rifles.
I called it a "Battle Scout," but whether is truly is or is not doesn't matter; it is a fun gun to shoot.
Best.
