Scored a new Colt Trooper 357

So I was looking on Florida gun trader and saw a ad for a Colt Trooper .357 for 475.00 so I called and it came home with me to join several of it's brothers!! It's in really good shape for a pistol that's as old as I am we were both born in 1967.:cool:I would rate it at about 80% just a little bit of holster wear on the muzzel and cylinder. Lock up is good. Just a great pistol. Trigger is awesome.The only thing I can't figure out is why the target grips on it have no serations on them the they are smooth. I think some one refinnished them but they are the right grips with the Colt logo on them. The one in the picture is not mine as I am at work but it is just liks it minus the grips being smooth.:D

FWIW, my Best Man (@ my wedding in 1965) bought a new Trooper in 1967, and it had uncheckered grips.

AFAIK, he still has it.

The Colt Trooper came with either checkered Target grips or the narrow checkered Service type grips.

They didn't come with smooth grips, but it's common to see Colt Target grips with the checkering sanded off.

Well, I was with my friend, when he bought the brand-new Trooper out of the LGS' showcase, and the grips were smooth target-style with the prancing pony medallion's.

Thanks for the info Dfariswheel. I thought they only came checkered but was not sure. I have several Colts and have never seen smooth target grips. I am sure it hurts the collector value but it was still a very good deal in my book.
 
Congratulations! That's the original Trooper that has the same lockwork as the Colt Python.

I was thinking of putting a Python barrel on mine, but because the frame is cut different (where the barrel and frame meets), it couldn't pass itself off as a Python but rather as a poor fakery (would it be a Troothon or a Pyper?).

I has thought of that also but I have two pythons already so kind of a waste of time besides I did not have a Trooper 357 in my collection. I need a Diamond back now had one but some offered me too much to turn down so now i'm looking for another one.:D
