Scoping an ar?

I just bought a Scheels Icon 6-18x44 for a DPMS Recon. I think I bought too much scope. Also lose the BUIS with the scope (probably any scope.
I would like to hear what other have used and why. I bought the rifle for
when TSHTF times. The scope was to see what the 16" barrel could do at the range. I think I could have made a much better choice

If you're concerned about losing the ability to run irons, there's a couple options. One is a quick release scope mount... buy quality so you have good return to zero without the need to re-zero every time you pull it off. Another option is a 45 degree angle mount for use with a 1x optic like a red dot or holosight... you just twist the rifle slightly and use that optic (used by some 3 gun shooters).

I love the 45 degree mini reflex setups from, trijicon make the one i want but frou around 500 dollars that is way to much. I use a 2x7-33mm on my AR with Patriot Ordnance Factory backup front and rears cause i have a rail gas block. I like their designs.
