Scoping a model 700

I didn't want to step on the other model 700 thread any more than I have, so am starting this one. I thought I could mount a Redfield Revolution 2-7x33 with standard weaver rings and bases, but the tube is too short. The gun is a long action .270 Win. that I just picked up. Do I just get extension rings, or get a scope that will work? I'm actually leaning towards doing both, but am not sure. How would you all outfit this rifle?

I'd go with Burris XTR bases.
Burris Zee rings are narrower than the old Weavers, so that would give you a little more room, too.

Weaver also has extended bases that will allow short scopes to be mounted on a long-actioned 700. I'd use low or medium rings to clear the objective. The Weaver rings with four-screws are much better than the older designs, but both will work.

I've mounted scopes with less space on long action Remingtons before without resorting to extension rings. It should work with what you have.

I think I've figured out your problem. The Weaver style bases can be reversed. The slots for the rings can be close together, or farther apart depending on which direction they are mounted. I bet if you reverse one or both of the bases you will have plenty of room.

Just got back from chasing ducks, ill check that out jmr.

*edited to add that the front base can be reversed, but that would just increase the distance. I think I'll go with the leupold QR ext. Rings and bases. Thanks.
