Scopes for Marlin 1895g

I just got a 45-70 Marlin model 1895g (guide gun) and want to add some type of scope/red dot sight, and cant find much info.

A. Option one -sticking a Leupold Scout scope on it, but cant find any info on a good mount that works for it. (any suggestions)

B. Option two -Aimpoints XD technology red dot with 2x magnification. My only worry here is i've never seen one, and the red dot itself is of such a small moa, that i worry it will be hard to see. Also, ive only seen one ring mounts that i question their strenght on such a heavy recoil rifle.

C. I have a Leupold Gilmore 3 moa laying around, but i dont think it will be appropriate for this rifle.

Anyone have any ideas or advice for what im planning, which option may be better, or any other options that may work. Thanks.

(usefull info- Gun will be used for pigs, paper, and possible SHTF situations.) Thanks again.

I just saw Wild West has a Leupold Scout mount that looks ok, and they sell it, the scope, and install for $480.00. Alot of $$, but still interested in the red dot too.

Scout mount

Check out this months American Rifleman. AO Sights scout mount $50. You can install it yourself. Leopold Scout scope from SWFA $230.
Good Shooting.

I have the Ashley scope mount on mine. The dovetailed rear sight must be removed in order to do this. The rear of the mount uses the forward holes tapped into the receiver and a slick dovetailed blank with a tapped hole replaces the rear sight. I have a older T/C 1.5X scope on mine that works perfect. As long as your on the phone with Ashley Outdoors, order the ghost ring sight. It mounts in the two rear holes of the receiver. I would then suggest getting some Leupold QRW rings for the setup.

I second the wild west guns scout mount if you would like a scout type mount. I have one on my marlin and love it. One option would be to just get the mount and rings from wild west and shop around a little for the scout scope.

its never easy

Well, seems most all of you favor the leupold scout over the red dot...and i am kinda leaning in that direction as it is probably a more stout scope

As far as mounts, i did some studying on both the WWest and the Ashley (AO). Both have redeming features.

WW: This one is the Cleanest looking in that its shorter-rather than an 8"base all over the place the Ashley comes with. However, the WW needs gunsmithing to install, and i'd rather avoid that. The AO i can put on myslef, and it seems to mount lower than the WW (which is a real plus...but its definately not as aesthetic as the WW.-

Anyhow, thanks all for your help, ill make some calls and order what i can. - ill edit this message with my choice once ordered.

Thanks all, just got the Leupold scope and rings (qrw) from SWFA, and got the AO mount from Brownells (AO didnt have any instock, so i went to Brownells). Im pretty excited to start throwing loggs (shooting the 45-70).
Tough i would have preferred the WW mount, the extra $25 times two ways for shipping, plus the install cost plus the mount itself...and it was hardly worth the difference to me anymore.

One thing to consider. You can always remove the AO mount and return your rifle to its original configuration.
