Scope?

J2.

I am thinking about mounting a scope on my Winchester 1200 12 ga. I have heard from some this could be problem because of the aluminium receiver. Is this so? And if so what are my options? Thank you for any help.

It can be did. We have not had any trouble with them. We shoot more in one weekend then most guys shoot the hunting guns in there life. We put small amount of JB weld under mount. You will have more trouble with the scope standing up to the recoil of the gun the mount.

I had a scope mounted on my 1400 for over 20 years and that has an aluminum receiver. I had a scope mount rail the was made for the shotgun installed by a gunsmith (well my father did when I was 13) and it never was a problem and the scope never moved.

Go With The Saddle Mount

I'd do away with the whole problem of drilling & tapping in aluminum and install a B-Square saddle mount. I have one of these and a similar mount by Redfield on my BPS and 1100. The BPS has been mounted for at least 10 years now, and it will handle heavy recoil from both buckshot and turkey loads without a hitch. It also provides a sighting tunnel so that you may still use your front bead if needed. You can install it in about 10 minutes by yourself. Just knock out the rear trigger pin, replace with the one in the kit through the mount, swing down the front and install two screws and the bridge and set screw just behind the loading port. That's it-and you're done!:D
