Scope too Low?

Hi all,

I just put a Springfield Armory Gov't Model 4-14 x 56mm on a Ruger Varmint Target .308. I have just enough space between the objective lens and the barrel to see daylight between them.

Is that too close? If so, what are my options for raising the scope? I would have to use non-ruger rings.

I have not shot it yet.

Thanks in advance...

Having the scope as close to the bbl as possible is a good thing. There's no reason for a huge gap between the front bell and the bbl.

Having it closer to the line of the muzzle lessens the angle between the bullet's path and the line of sight of the scope.

Well, an interference fit could be a 327 piston in a 283 cylinder. :) Or trying to put a 3/8" bolt in a 5/16" hole...

In this case, having the front of the scope touching the barrel of the rifle, and a gap between the tube portion of the scope and the front mount--and reefing that sucker down tight.

Some things just don't work.
