Scope suggestions

For the past few years I’ve been putting the Burris FFII 4.5X14X42mm scope on my rifles. Since the E1 version of the FFII was launched this year, the standard FFII price has increased. I used to be able to find the FFII 4.5X14X42 for about $250, now it’s $299+. My guess is that Burris is wanting to move their customers over to the E1 and phase out the standard FFII. My problem is that I don’t care for the E1. I’m not a fan of the floating reticle and I don’t like the large silk screen printing of the brand name and model. My question is, what brand(s) are comparable to the Burris FFII in clarity, quality and cost? I'd like to stay in the power range of 4-14 or so and I prefer not to go above $300 if possible. What are your suggestions?

If you can find one, take a look at, and do a bit of research on the Redfield Revolution 4-12x40mm. Made in Oregon by Leupold, they MSRP for over $300 but usually can be found for around $250... and I think there's a factory rebate on them right now as well.

Creeper, I just mounted one on my friend's 7mm mag and sighted it in this past Sat. While the glass was pretty clear, I wasn't overly impressed with with the scope as a whole. I also sighted in a Burris E1 along with it and it seems the 2mm difference of the objective was favorable.

I'm a known, admitted and unrepentant "scope snob", so I'm not overly impressed with either scope... just tossing out something I'm familiar with that fits your price/quality needs.

Best of luck finding what you're looking for. (Pun intended :D)

As SSA covered . Give Sightron scopes a good look. They make a very well guarded scope and havea afordable low priced and mid priced line.

Scope

I bought one of the new Redfield Revenge 3x9 42mm scopes (owned by Leupold and made in the Philippines). I really like the scope, especially the Turrets. Has the same warranty as all Leupold products and I believe mine has better optics than the VXII's that I have. I doubt Leupold built a new factory in the Philippines so I suspect someone there makes them to Leupold specs. I know Nikon is there so perhaps they make them. I know of nothing better for the price. The Turrets work "crisply" by hand and mine are very precise.

Check Natchez. They have the Bushnell Elite 3-9x40 scopes on sale for 199, plus there is a mail-in rebate for $75. Elites are great scopes.

abroad

When the Fullfields went overseas, I lost interest in the model. My example is a made in USA version and no complaints.

Natchez also has the Nitrex TR One scopes. I put the 3x9x42 on my Marlin XL7 and couldn't be happier with the rifle or the scope. Can't believe the quality for the money.
