Scope Rings and Base Suggestions for a Weatherby Vanguard

I just purchased a Weatherby Vanguard Select (30-06) and am looking for base and ring suggestions for a Leupold VX-II 3x9x40mm. Looking for something quality but don't want to spend a fortune (bang-for-the-buck). Thanks!

I used Leopold mounts and ring, they work great, all steel. If I had to do it again I'd probably go with a picatinny rail system. With all the add on stuff available these days it seems like a better idea

I doubt mine will be a popular suggestion but I'm merely passing on my (extremely limited!) experience.

I am 95% (+) a handgun guy, I barely dabble in rifles but I go on an annual prairie dog hunt and now five years in... I'm getting pretty good at it! I use a Howa 1500 in .223, your Weatherby Vanguard is the same rifle in a different stock. My rifle has been fantastic and I'm using a budget mount and glass.

Using the Bushnell AR-223 optic, 6-18x and mounted with a one-piece all aluminum DNZ mount. This unit is mount and rings all in a single piece.

I have nothing else to compare it to and while I definitely lack experience, I'm still wise enough that I would NEVER suggest this mount is better than traditional methods. However, this rig has performed beyond my demands and expectations.

I suppose the most obvious caveat is that a 24" heavy varmint rig in .223 is far less physically abusive with recoil to a mount and glass than a .30/06 is going to be.

Check the DNZ"Hunt Masters"2-pc mount with integral rings Natchez.com $35.49.
This is some good stuff. They'll work well on your Vanguard.

Seekins rings and bases. With 21ft lbs of recoil you should also bed the bases to keep from breaking the screws. I have a shelf full of all the other rings and bases and only buy Seekins now.

I've got one rifle using DNZ mounts. That is probably the simplest mount I've ever done. It would be hard to screw it up. I've got another rifle using the Leupold QR base and rings. That one is also simple. I had another using Leupold turn-in rings. I won't be using those again - not that they are bad, just that they take more effort to get right. I might try Warn base/rings on my next rifle just for giggles.

I tried Talley rings and base for the first time for my Weatherby Vanguard (Howa) rifle and have been very satisfied with the set-up.

I have to agree with the Tally 1 piece rings, I have em on 2 different rifles, 1 on a weatherby s2 in 7-08..Have shot over 200 rounds without a problem..

When I started into guns in early 60s, Weaver was the most popular Scopes &
Bases/ Rings. I have rifles with Weaver Scopes and rings/bases that still have
them after all those years. Everything from 22s to 375 H&H. Never had a failure
in mounts or scopes. Today I go with Leupold or Redfield bases and rings, only
because of the way the rings come straight down with even pressure. The Weavers can drive you nuts the way they pull from one side and roll the scope
with them. No matter how many you put on I have never got one straight on
first try. I just bought a $40 some dollar quick detach with lock levers, they are
Warne or Talley I forget witch. I decided I don't like any extra stuff hanging off
rifle so I took them back off before I even mounted scope. I like to stick with
the simplest and steel rig. After I thought about it I have no need to remove the
scope in the field. What Im looking for is a set of steel Redfield Rings they made
back in 60s for 22 rifles with narrow dovetail grooves. I need them for a old
Savage 24DL. I haven't found any rings that will gripp those little grooves on
22 barrel.

Talley and Weaver

I had bought two sets of Talley rings for Remington 700's. in a close out sale for $10.00 each. Set these aside for future use. The future came within weeks. In the end bought two more sets. One for a Vanguard and another for a Savage 110. I have a vast collection of Weaver Rings. As a result most times the Weaver's are the mounts and/or rings used. This is an easy choice since so many rifles are coming with Weaver bases. I have had zero, like none, problems with either Weaver or Talley rings.

My Weaver mounts have given good service through some 4,000 rounds of '06 during some 30+ years.

One of my .30-06 rifles has been re-barreled at least twice. No problem with the Weaver rings and mounts.
