Scope Recommendation For 9mm Carbine Rifle

I don't know a good brand for you, but I'd be lookin' at 4x or less magnification, or a red dot scope for that carbine. You don't want to slow it down with a high mag scope.

Hey Gryph,

Ideally you would want a red-dot for your carbine. Engagement will always be under 100m therefore pinpoint accuracy is not neccessary. However quick aquisition is vitally important and red-dots rule in this department. A 4 MOA red-dot would effectively cover 4 inches of your target at 100m. It would cover 2 inches of your target at 50m, the most likely range. Simmons and BSA makes some inexpensive red-dots that don't require rings. I'd start there and work up. I did see a Leupold Gilmore 4 MOA red-dot at CDNN's web-site for a reasonable price, around $160 with rings and dust covers. And Tasco's Pro-Point is a good buy for the money. You can also dish out alot of money for an ACOG but that's probably a little overkill for your carbine.

Talk to you later,

Warm Bore

Just a note...

Both post replies are correct.

Your range is limited. Your effective range even more so.

I would suggest if you don't want the dot type aiming device, go with maximum 2.5x scope. Also... mount it forward, ala scout rifle. No point in it getting in your way.

And keep some sort of iron sight arrangement as back up.

My recommendation: No scope at all.

You're talking about shooting at less than 100 yards as far as being effective, and probably less than that. I recommend you practice with the iron sights and get good with them.

I've seen a number of places with the 1-3x Weaver V3 scope on sale for $99. That's an excellent buy on a Japanese made scope, and perfect in size and magnification for a 9mm carbine. -- Kernel

I agree with Bob Locke and would not go with a scope on a 9mmm carbine at all. However, if you feel use must have one you might want to take a look at Bushnell's "Turkey Scope." 1.75 X 4 power with a circle reticle for fast acquisition up close and a fine cross hair inside the circle for greater precision at longer distances.

If i put a scope on it, i would go with a Tasco 3x9x40 World Class Wide Angle currently on clearance at Wally World for $44.00.

i've got a colt 9mm AR and i put the 3 min aimpoint on it ..this rifle is a flattop so i put ARMS rear AR sight on the rail also and it came in handy the other day when aimpoint battery petered out..if you're interested i'll email you a picture of it. it's the most fun gun i own...Dick

I own two 9mm carbines; The Hi-Point, and The Ruger PC-9. I have a low power "shotgun" scope on the Hi-Point and a Leupold/Gilmore LG-35 red dot on the Ruger. Rule #1 for optics; you can't get a quality optical instrument cheap. PERIOD. If you don't want to spend the money on a good one, don't get one at all. Spending $50 on a POS is worse than putting a match to $50. All that being said, if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't scope a 9mm carbine. For any shooting I do, pinpoint accuracy is a factor. Otherwise why shoot if accuracy isn't important. I am not an armchair commando, so my shooting consists of shooting junk, paper targets, and coyotes. I definitely want to hit them, and preferably in the right spot. Think about this, you are out plinking and spy a beer can at 100 yards. Your red dot completely covers the can at that range. You can't even see it. At 100 yards, the dot will cover most of a jackrabbit. As far as the scope goes, I can see putting something like a 4x or a variable on it, but the low power scope for me isn't worth it. I have read all the stuff about putting everything in the same plane and all that, but for me it doesn't work out. A good peep sight is better for me.
