Scope recomendations for Marlin 30-30

How about some recomendations for a scope that would be appropriate for a new Marlin 30-30 Lever Action? Brand, power et.

I've had some very good Bushnell's in 3-9X40 on them. If I lived someplace where all my hunting was done in close though, which is ideal for the 30.30, I'd probably buy a 2-7x40 Nikon for it.

Good luck.

Mesa. Any good 1x4X or better yet a 1 3/4x5X, if a variable is what you want. Otherwisw a good 2 3/4 or 3X fixed power is more than adequate for a 30-30. I can't see putting a high powered scope on a rifle designed for 200 yard or less shooting. JMHO.

Mesa,

Don't skimp on optics. I've owned and gotten rid of Tasco, Simmons, Bushnells, etc. Now, all my guns sport Leupold or Burris scopes. There are better scopes out there, but I've found great deals on used Leupolds/Burrises on a couple of the auction sites. Just take your time, and good deals come along.

For the 30-30, I'd look for a fixed power scope of no more than 4X. Better would be Leupold's VX-II 1-4X. I picked one up on auction for around $160 and am quite pleased with it.

However, if you want to try something different, check out Lyman's receiver/peep sight. The one for the Marlin 336 is number 66LA. I have one mounted on a Marlin 1894. It comes with two screw-in peeps. Use the smaller one for accuracy, the larger for hunting, and if you remove both, the housing serves as a workable ghost-ring.

Looks "authentic" to boot.

Shoot straight.

For deer, a good quality 4x scope works just fine. I know guys who have those 3-9X zoom scopes, but I don't see practicality in that. Too much magnification limits the field of view. On a good day the 30-30 good up to 200 yards. A 4x scope is fine for that distance on a deer.

It works for me, but not be right for everyone. Most important of all is good quality.

Leupold 4x33mm (m8?) is all I can think of in easy-to-find-fair-priced-good-quality, but the 4x is closer to overkill on a 200 yds or less rifle. Just my 0.02 ;)

It would be hard to beat a 1X4 vari-X II Leupold for a 30/30.With it you would have max versatility and not mess up the balance of your 30/30 too bad.
