I want to mount a scope on my M&P 15-22 A2 Style and i found a decent compact scope(7.88" 1") can i use a weaver style mount? Also because of the sights on it what is the proper height of the sight i should use?

thanks

What kind of scope are you mounting? How big is the front lens (objective bell diameter)? For example a 3-9X 40mm scope would have a 46 mm objective bell diameter. You could probably use medium height rings. More compact scopes with smaller diameters would be ok with medium rings as well. However, if you have bigger diameter, I would suggest high or extra high rings. Yes you can use a Weaver style mount as they can fit on picatinny rails. As far as the sights go, they are both removable. For magnified scopes due to the eye relief, you will have to remove the rear sight but you can leave the front sight as it will not be in the focus field. It would be like it is not even there.

I don't think you well need high or extra high rings with any scope mounted on top the A2 handle. You want to go as low as possible, it's to high to begin with.

The only A2 mounted scopes that I have used are the old Colt style that mount very low to the handle.

I don't think the OP has a detachable handle, unless he bought one for his MP 15-22. a picture of his rifle would clear things up.

I use this on my Stag flat top then standard burris rings.

UTG 1" High 13-slot SEE-THRU Riser Mount MNT-RS10L

Scope sets high but i prefer that on an AR.
