Scope Question for .22-250

Mosin-Marauder

Would a Simmons 4-12 3/4" tube rimfire scope be enough for a Savage Axis in .22-250 if I got good weaver bases/base and tightened down all the screws very good? This would be temporary of course, as I already own this scope and I can't really afford to buy another one at the moment. Just thinking ahead a bit, as I'm nearing completion of my lay-away plan. Any help Is appreciated, thank you! :)

No. Rimfire scopes aren't made to take the recoil of cf cartridges. Even relatively light cartridges like a .22-250.
You have the Axis now? You could buy a Savage package that comes with a scope. Or use the low end Simmons as part of a trade.

As has been said, the scope isn't for centerfire rifles. But...if that's all you have on hand and you don't mind risking the scope, go for it. If it breaks, it breaks. Big deal.

Walmart sells a Centre Point scope for a good price. Not the best in the world by far, but for the cost. Once you get it sighted in, it will hold zero forever. Don't try to use turrets for adjusting as tracking is totally useless, but they hold zero very well.

If I remember right Tasco, Simmons and Bushnell are all the same company now. I have no problems with their scopes as long as they are meant for centerfire rifles. Plenty of $30-40 scopes out there that will hold a good zero out to 100 yards.

I got a copy of a Simmons 3-9x40 for like $70
Handles the recoil of the .270 Winchester just fine. Works in very low lighting. Sight picture is clear, never cloudy or blurry. Seems like good bang for your buck especially if you're on a tight budget.

I believe the company is called 'Shooter's Edge' (yeah a little cheezy, I know)

They do seem to make a 4-12x40 for very cheap, too. If it's any bit as good as my 3-9x40 I'd highly recommend it.

Midway frequently has a Simmons whitetail 6.5-20x on sale for $114. Has adjustable objective good clarity. Decent scope for $115.00

I have been uber happy with my bushnell 1-9x banner scope. very solid with a good base. been using it for over a year and at least 2k rounds. wouldn't hesitate to buy another even though it's considered low-end. under 100$, the con is the illuminated reticle, although its still very usable, it kind of turns the whole lens a hue of green or red when you turn it on, but I almost never use it anyway.

that was when I first put it on, it was slightly canted.
but it affords 100 yard groups like these for under a hundred bucks. this is from a 500$ Omni 16" AR

this is 200yards with the same scope

I know there is better glass out there, but for a discount priced scope, this is the bee's knees in my opinion. holds tight zero no matter what, and has a pretty fine reticle . I highly recommend it

I have the Nikon p series mount which helped dramatically. They are a bit pricey at 50-60$, but will last forever even as you upgrade optics though the years. I plan to put this Bushnell on my mosin and upgrade the AR to Mueller 22x soon, and I will stay with the p mount.

Skizzums, what is the diameter of the eye piece on that scope? The bolt throw on the Axis is pretty wide and I've heard of scopes with the finish scratched off of them because they eye piece was too big or the mounts were too low.

Mo, what happened to the scope that was on the axis?
The axis is a package deal mounts, rings, scope are all mounted at the factory. I won a 223 axis in May and it was a package deal. Did you buy yours used?

Skizzums, no, it mounts over the receiver.

Lucas, I'm fairly certain mine is used, as there is a scratch on the bolt handle. But not all Axis' come with a scope. I saw several without them at the LGS. I would have gotten a package, but this one was $275 out the door and the package deals were $350+ tax, and I've heard kinda "meh" revils in the scope in the package deal. Other than the scratch on the bolt handle mine is like new.

I dont know why this scope wouldn't work for you, but I can give you all the measurements when I get off work tonight. They sell them at academy, you would be able to return it if it didn't work. This has the rangefinder reticle, but I would probably prefer a finer reticle like a mil-spec for precision target. But this one is also very nice

Oh, never mind skizzums, I saw this thing on YouTube (the nutnfancy proj.) And his scope got scratched because he had very low scope rings and the wide arc of the bolt caused it to drag along the side of the scope. As long as I get 1" high scope rings I should be fine. Sorry for the confusion.

Well I do hope you give it a try. I have been through a half dozen of sup 100$ scopes and this one is really really nice. Can't stressed it enough. I let a guy borrow my gun at the range last eek and assumed the scope had to ne around 300$. Even my high power friends are impressed with it.

Also check prices at Mid_South Shooter's Supppy, and Natchez Shooter's Supply

They often beat Midway on similar products
