Scope mounting system for Savage 93R17

I'm planning on getting the 93R17 for plinking and I have a spare Nikon Buckmasters 3-9X40 BDC that I plan on putting on it. I have seen this rifle quite frequently on sale for under $200. Anyway, it comes with bases so I would just need to buy rings. However, everyone always says to buy aftermarket bases and rings, but I am having a hard time finding any for this particular rifle.

Any chance someone might be able to suggest a decent set - and link to it if possible?

Thanks.

Savage doesn't make bases or rings, so of course, they'd have to be aftermarket. Virtually any Weaver-style rings would suffice for that rifle. You have literally hundreds of options. Here is a link to the Midway USA page that gives you options. You might note that there are over 200 varieties, and any of them would work on that rifle. Your only problem will be choosing the one that you want. They'll all work on the rifle.

For my 93tr I bought a base from EGW and went with Burris rings.

The factory 2 piece bases were very low, and with low rings, I could not get enough clearance for a 40mm bell scope. The EgW rail and low rings puts the scope almost too high really, and I needed to add to the comb of the stock.

Danged if you do, danged if you don't,

I did almost the same thing. I used the EGW base and got medium burris rings. Perfect for 40mm scope, even with scope covers. Note: if you decide to keep and use the factory bases on the gun they need to be tightened. Savage DOES NOT TIGHTEN these bases. The screws are delibrately left so that they are easy to remove. Take the screws out and put some blue loctite on them and reinsert and torque.
