Scope Mounting Problem

I bought a Savage Axis XP (Bolt Action) in .308

It was sold as a "combo" with a cheap Bushnell 3 x 9 Scope, which many reviewers recommended to replace. So I bought a Nikon Pro Staff 3 x 9 50mm scope.

The Scope Mounts that came with Bushnell scope are about 1/8" to 1/4"
too wide to fit a Nikon Pro Staff 3 x 9 50mm scope.
The Recoil Keys on my new scope rings are both extended to the maximum distance apart on the Nikon Tube; but they are still about maybe 1/4" to shy of the slots on the original Savage Scope Mounts.

Is there another scope mount on the market that will fit a 1" tube that is about 1/4" shorter? (Is this a dumb question? It is my first scope mounting project.)

That means that the Recoil Key fitted between the Scope Rings , which must fit into the Recoil Key Slot designed to hold the original Bushnell 3 x 9 scope bought with the rifle, cannot quite stretch out to the same distance apart as the original scope used.

Are there Scope Mounts which allow for any other scope fittings for my new Savage Rifle? Is there a scope mount for my rifle that has a slightly narrower distance between the slot?

Could there be a solid and single piece scope mount for my rifle that operates like a "rail"?

Thanks guys.

You may be able to flip the front base around and that give you enough room. One piece base is an option. Extended ring is an option.

You need either a set of extended scope rings or an one piece base, both will cost about the same. I have owned both and would sugest that you purchase and install a one piece scope base. EGW sells a nice one and Weaver has one as well if your on a budget.

Scope Mount Solution

Thanks all:

I used a One Piece Scope Mount. Also, had to use High Scope Rings, without which, I could not even get the lens covers on. All is well now.
