Well, just bought a brand new Simmons Aetec to mount on my Ruger Mk77MkII...w/o checking the ring height! DOH! Anyway, I set about reinstalling my old scope. I never took the bases of the rings off. I had broken the scope out of the loctite I used to hold it in place, then lightly sanded (10 passes with 600grit) the inside of the rings to remove excess loctite and rough up the surface so it would properly grip the tube. I aligned it fore and aft and made sure the crosshairs were level, then tightened the rings down. I then tried bore sighting it once the scope was installed, but I can't seem to get this thing to align properly! I'm about 8" low and 6" left at 25yds! There isn't enough adjustment in the scope to get it on paper. This is ridiculous, I didn't even take the bottom of the mounts off of the base! I want to avoid using shims. Should I release some of the screw tension on the rings? I ran out of light last night, and am hoping to try again tonight. Anyone ever dealt with a mount that just won't align? Any suggestions guys? Also, who has a good deal on high mount Ruger M77MkII rings???
