IM AT THE POINT OF MOUNTING A SIMMONS 44 MAG SCOPE ON THE 10 FP, .223. THE RIFLE WILL BE USED FOR NONCOMPETITIVE BENCHREST SHOOTING AND FIELD USE. SHOOTING RANGE WILL BE FROM 200METERS TO 400. I NEED SOME EXPERIENCED RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE TYPE OF MOUNTS AND RINGS TO USE.
THANKS IN ADVANCE

I have double-dovetail mounts and millet rings. My setup can be seen at the web site below. I chose this setup because it's rock-solid. Disadvantages are that it is not easy to remove and allows for no windage adjustment. I am not sure how easy one-piece bases will be to find but you can use the Savage 110 two piece setups.

First, buy yourself a good scope alignment kit. You run the risk of kinking, warping, even damaging your scope if the rings are not aligned. A typical kit includes two metal studs used to check alignment, lapping compound, and lapping tool.

Go here and get the Wheeler Engineering Scope Ring Alignment Kit http://www.midwayusa.com

Believe me, this will be a good $40 investment in protecting your equipment in the long run...

B-Sqaure makes a good one-piece scope base fo the 10FP. I ordered mine for about $30 from them. A set of redfield rings and a Tasco World Class mil-dot 3-9x topped off the rig, which can now shoot easily under MOA. The mil-dots are nice for ranging also.

Hope this helps!

I've had rifles with one-piece mounts, Conetrols, Weaver and Weaver-style. I've yet to have any damage to a scope. Any loosening was my own fault.

I've had some sort of Weaver-type mount on my '06 for about 30 years now; recoil and falling off mountains hasn't hurt a thing.

Weaver mounts are a minor PITB because the final tightening "rolls" the scope slightly off vertical. I've learned to compensate a bit before the tightening, and it's no longer a problem. Mounts whose caps "saddle" the scope are zero problem.

WallyWorld is real convenient...

I'd recommend Weaver bases, and Leupold QRW rings. They return to within a MOA of zero, and you can swap scopes between rifles. Get a kit to lap your rings. You won't be sorry.
