scope mount suggestion

should I put a one piece scope mount on my Savage 110 in .30-06, and if so what brand?.What are the advantages of the one piece over the two piece mounts? pretty much set on the Burris rings with the plastic inserts. also best scope magnification. for 200 yd shots max. the 3x9x40 doesn't really get me in close enough. Any suggestions for $150-200 range.

Thanks in advance to any pro's that can steer me in the right direction, as I'm a novice in the scope dept.

The savage 110 .30-06 is a long action and has the scope bases pretty far apart which makes mounting scopes with shorter tubes a pain. A lot of scopes aren't quite long enough. The one piece mounts allow you to place the rings wherever you want so you can pick any scope and mount it as far forward or back as you need. That's the only reason I put one on mine. I was having problems mounting a shorter tubed scope at the time. I put a b-square 1 piece mount that I think was around $15, then I installed weaver low or medium quick release steel rings $25 and a Weaver 44/40 3x9x40mm scope $150ish. It works great. If all your shooting is 200 yards you really dont need more magnification than 9x. If you over scope your rifle you will regret it later. Plus the price goes up with higher magnification if you want to keep with a decent scope.

Try the $99 Vortex Crossfire from SWFA. The one I received was great for the money. I think it's a 6.5-24x 50. I showed the scope to some of my friends and three of them bought it. One is on a .270 and it's into its second season with no problems whatsoever. Best of all it's backed by the Vortex lifetime warranty. I think you'll need the high Burris rings to clear the barrel. I've read that a one-piece mount can induce stress into the receiver, but then again it adds strength. I chose two piece mounts for my rifles, but I don't think it really makes all that much difference. Whichever you choose, bed the mounts with the green loctite and it won't be a problem. You can find the instructions online on how to do it. pretty simple.
