Ok I'm done screaming.

Try your local dealer, or brownells for the do-it yourself parts.

I have never put a scope on a revolver before, but if the gun was drilled and tapped at the factory, you just need to remove the rear sight. A good scope rail is a plus, as for rings and a scope, I couldn't tell you. If it's going to take a beating on your .44 then don't skimp on the cheap stuff. BTW, I think most new S&W's come D/T already.

I use a Millett base on my 629 which already came drilled and tapped. I like the Millett - it is steel , low profile and uses dual dovetail rings and the price was not bad either. I used Leupold rings.

Sounds like to me your 44 will not be drilled and tapped being a 29-2. A competent gunsmith should be able to drill and tap your frame. If you decide later to go back to open sights the holes are covered when you reinstall the rear sight.

I use a 2X Leupold , it is not cheap - but it has been on 3 different 44 Mags and has not missed a beat. The optics are extremely sharp and crisp with a very highly defined reticle.

Here is my setup.

i took the rear sight off and there is already one drilled and tapped hole for the front screw and the back screw rides in a slot in the top strap...

from the way it looks it wouldn't be that hard to mount a base without any drilling.... does anyone offer a product that will mount into this slot and screw down into that front hole??
