Scope loosening up after 100 rds

I just slapped an AIM Sports Tactical 4x32 scope onto my Armalite M15A2 recently. and I am very pleased with the scope, after I got all the mount to scope bolts tightened and loctited. This ar is a solid carrying handle version, and I tossed the carrying handle pic rail on top to mount my scope.

The problem I am having is the single thumb nut that is on the handle mount pic rail keeps coming loose after less than 200rds... I don't want to loctite it because in the end I want to be able to have a couple scopes zeroed on seperate mounts for different situations. Any ideas what I can do to fix this problem? Does anyone sell a nylon lock nut for these handle mounts?

any info would be appreciated

A few options:
* Green LocTite can be applied to the thread/nut joint after assembly to keep the thumbnut from loosening.
* I used to use a spot of Permatex 500 gasket sealer on bolts and nuts to keep them from coming loose, it is a non-hardening sealer (thick and kind of rubbery).
* Nylon insert nuts are available, but they are usually big and bulky.

My recommendation: tighten the thumbnut with a screwdriver or wrench. Then don't worry about it.

Just go to the hardware store and get a black metal lock nut with the prongs built in or a stand alone lock washer (they are made from spring material), they do work.

IO find that..

clear nail polish does nicely for thread locking in a jiffy.

Try other color, make sure they don't clash with the black. :D

For when I did hunter sight-in, clear nail polish and bottle of acetone (aka nail polish remover) was standard in my kit for get "I just bought this and the shop did a bore sight on it" types.

Use a mount you can get a screwdriver on and tighten them down with about 20 inch-lbs. They shouldn't loosen then. I never use Locktite on mount screws, only bases and never have a problem, unless the screws or claws are too soft. Weaver Top Mounts are the least expensive decent mounts, but you have to file off the bumps inside the rings.

thx for the replys... as for a wrench or screwdriver, this is just a round knurled nut, no flat sides, no slots in it to tighten.

didnt know they made anything but permanant loctite.... so i guess i will look into what other stuff they have, but im going to try the fingernail polish first... this rifle is for my daughter, and she would like a splash of pink :D
