Scope Info Needed

Just bought my wife a rifle with a scope already mounted. Best I can tell is "6-24x50 AO Simmons Blazer". It's not listed on the Simmons website, and their hours are such that there's no way I can make a phone call to them.

Had it checked out, everything appears in good order, with only a little zoom-dance of the reticle (1-2", not great, but it'll do till later)

There is a third knob, on the lefthand side. Smaller than the turrets, and it raises some sort of "needle" into the field of view, over to the right of the reticle center. Does anybody know what it is?

Thanks

My guess would be it is an side adjustible objective (AO). Many scopes are equipped with front AO's that adjusts the for the distance of the shot. The only time I've ever seen a third adjustment turret, it for an internal AO. If the front of the scope does not have an adjustment ring and scale on it, then the third turret is the AO adjustment.

TomF1938 is probably correct. It also makes it much easier to use. The only A.O. I have are for target shooting. I dont like messing with things when shooting at a animal. But that just me. Around here it is very thick, and things happen fast.

It may be AO, but the scope already has a form of AO down on the end. This is a third turret, on the left hand side of the tube, which raises something internal so that it appears near the reticle, but shifted off to the right. It's much thicker than any other part of the reticle.

It could be a "windage turret" like on a BSA Scope..

Look at the Sweet-Series of BSA scopes... might help figure it out.

Like Baker6x6, I'll guess it has something to do with windage. The side focus turret on my VXIII works the same as the A/O on my VXII's. I like the side focus better because I don't have to get out of shooting position when adjusting.
