Scope Help.

Ok im looking into buying a leupold Mark 4 4.5x- 14 40mm
with M1 windage/elivation dials with mil dot and a 150yrd. paralax adj.
with a Mate finish on it and its going to put me back about $1044
give or take on the leupold custom shop. I had to make it in the
custom shop to make a faily decent scope for target shooting/plinking with out getting a full on competition scope and setting me back around $1600.

Before i make it final and have it shipped on its way i wanna ask you guys
and see if there is another scope out there i can take a look at and most
of you would recomend to take a look at that will last me with no
problems or any worries down the road.

Im looking to put a better scope on my remington 700 sps .308
and aiming to get a good quality scope that will allow me to hit ranges
of 1000 yards.. Im just makieng sure i get the right scope and dont
go out and buy this scope and find out there is a just as good or better
scope for either the same price or lower and feel like a fool. I was told the bushnell elites ratlicles have the tendancy to move a little and was recomended to look at leupolds because they dont have that problem.

Well, since you're dead-set against a bushnell elite (which I think is the best bang for buck available in a rifle scope), may I suggest this...

Don't get me wrong, the Leupy will be a fine scope. BUT, for that price you can have one of these...

I don't think you'll find too many people defending the Leupy when it's pitted against a Carl Ziess with comparable bells and whistles. Plus you save roughly 100 bucks if you want the mil reticle, or almost 200 if you're okay with a standard reticle (I would go with mil personally). My advice is worth what you paid for it

You can save a little over a hundred bucks if you get that leupy you're eyeing from optics planet. They ship free. Just make sure you find the blue bar that says "finish and reticle" under the picture and click on the mil dot reticle (takes the price from 799 to 925). It'll be virtually the same price as the Zeiss with the mil reticle. I would still go with the Zeiss given same price, but if you do go with the leupy you can get it cheaper here. Happy shooting

Yea im not looking to go hunting as much as just weekend target shooting..
And i was really looking into a bushnell but idk i dont wanna spend $675+ on a scope that after a while or so doesnt do me any good with moving raticles ya know.. And yea i really wanna get mil dot with it..

Thanks alot tho ill look into that for sure. You know of any reviews on youtube or anything i could
read up on or look at? I depend alot of 1 to 1 comparisin and break downs of the goods and
bads of the equipment to help lead me to one side or another

You can read throughout this message board and you will find that the general concensus will be that Zeiss and Swavoraski optics are superior to almost all others (except Schmidt & Binder), even Leupold. That is a fairly top end Leupy you have there, so it is actually in the same class as a Zeiss. I can assure you that the reticle in a Bushnell elite will not move, but I know you're set against it. Not to mention, I would be lying if I said that a Bushnell elite would be competative with either of the scopes referenced above. Maybe more bang for buck, but not better overall. If you do some faint research, and if you're worried about reticles moving (which is ultra rare), then you will discover that the Zeiss has a glass etched reticle. It can't be destroyed unless the glass is destroyed. Leupy (all Leupys) and most other scope companies still have wire reticles, although this has been an industry standard for years and rarely (if ever) fails in a quality scope. To be honest, there probably won't be a huge difference between the Zeiss I linked and the Leupy you're looking at. Both fine rifle scopes, and both will be a bit better overall than the elite.
