Scope for Ruger No.1 international 7x57

I posted some time back about my No1 that had a crooked scope base. I just got it back from Ruger, and it appears to be fixed. I'm traveling now and am going by what the gun shop guys are telling me over the phone. I had bought a Leupold 4x scope that was advertised as a scout scope for my Ruger Scout Rifle, but it wasn't a scout scope, so I ordered a 2.5 scout scope for the Scout Rifle, and am going to put the fixed 4x on the No1. What do you think? It is a very trim-looking scope and I thought it would look better on the International stock. Will that scope let me get out to a max of say 300yds with the 7x57 from the 20" barrel of the rifle?

Fixed 4x scope

A fixed 4-power scope was the "standard hunting" scope for many years, that is until the optical companies solved the initial problems associated with early variable power types.

The majority of big game animals harvested in north america, are killed @ less than 200 yards. Your fixed power scope mated to the 7mm Mauser cartridge, on a Ruger single-shot rifle, is considered a "balanced" setup.

Odds are, the typical "joe america" shooter cannot consistently harvest game animals @ 300 yards. Why, because they fire less than 20 rounds per year!

Yes, it does happen occasionally, but not as a general rule. The odds of executing a well placed humane killing shot, are more in your favor if you can stalk to less than 200 yards of your quarry.

yup

I think Guru's got it.

A Ruger No.1 Int. is a tidy little rifle and it needs a tidy scope.

A fixed 4 would be seem about right. The 7x57 in an International is a classic combo. Congrats.

I have a 1-4x32 on my #1 RSI of the same flavor. I thought long and hard about the Leupy 2.5x20 ultralight scope and the VXII 2-7x33. You need 4" of eye relief.
