Scope for a Smith & Wesson model 629---strictly cosmetic

I have a new S&W model 629 Classic with a 6 1/2 inch barrel that I would like to put a scope on for deer hunting. I am planning on getting a Leupold, Burris, or Nikon scope, but can't decide if I should get the matte black or silver finish. The matte finish would match the black rubber grips, while the silver finish will match the gun's finish. I know it is strictly cosmetic, but does anyone have any suggestions? Also, does anyone have any suggestions on which one of the three brands above would be best suited for my intended use? I think that I will need a good brand such as one of the three above to withstand the recoil generated by this pistol. Thanks for any comments...

On my 629 Classic I have used a black scope , would prefer the matte but only had this gloss Leupold on hand. The Leupold does not have click adjustments which may bother some. None of the silver color scopes I have seen really match the stainless finish on most handguns.

i have a black Bushenell Trophy red-dot on my stainless (stainless is our friend) Ruger Super Redhawk. looks sweet. Jury is still out if it's gonna take the abuse. barrel at 9-1/2 inches the kick is not bad at all though.

sorry no pics of the new scope. only pic i have of her, she was wearing a cheapo (came with the gun, used) 2x Tasco in black. looked sweet too, but after about three cylinders the internals exploded on the scope. the windage knob was just flopping around on the side, lol. like shooter said, the silver scopes rarely match.

just noticed looking at that pic, my rings are stainless and match the gun. unlike shooter's (nice pic and nice group shooter) which is all black. something to consider. after i put on a weaver rail, my new setup is all black, rail, rings and scope on a stainless gun.

I have a Ruger Super Blackhawk too and it's topped with a Burris 2x scope, the rings match the gun and the black scope looks pretty nice on top of it. When it comes to handgun scope don't cheap out. I destroyed a Tasco on top of my TC Contender 7x30 waters. Can you imagine if it survived most of the range/target/sighting in, but the last shot? Glad I saw the scope go blurry while I was still shooting, I just wanted to sight it in 2" hight at 100 yards and I had 2 round to go with my grouping. josh

Scoping a 629

Hello
I have scoped mine in the past with a Leupold 4X pistol scope. This scope was blued and I applied a nice silver color that matched the stainless perfect. I really do not understand why these scope makers do NOT have a finish to match stainless. Be sure to use a GOOD quality scope ring's when doing this,do to the heavy recoil. I tried a cheaper one and it BROKE and almost damaged the scope. I replaced it with a set of high quality Leupold rings. Regards, Hammer It.

I have two S&W M629's wearing Leupold 2X EER SILVER scopes in Leupold mounts. I think they look great and have worked great with no problems for ~12 years. Apparently the deer and hogs killed didn't see the stainless gun and scope until it was too late. Choose whichever color you like best and go for it!

Good shooting and be safe.
