Scope for a 22LR.

Just bought myself my first 22LR.

It's a Savage Mark 2 BTV. I'll be doing mostly target shooting at 50-100 yards, with occasional plinking. I want to move out to longer ranges later on.

I have done several searches and gotten a thousand recommendations for a scope. My budget is about 150$, maybe a little more, a little less.

Is there any kind of consensus on a 150$ scope which would serve well here.

Thanks

Your Savage deserves more than the typical Tasco or Barska style scopes that typically get put on a .22 rifle.

Check out something like a Leupold VX-I Rimfire Rifle Scope 2-7x 28mm and shop around for the best price.

Muller apv

Look at the Mueller 4.5X-14X with the A/O, at about $130. It is the most recommended scope for the money on other forums. Focus's down to under 50 feet and has the upper power you will need for longer shots. I have the 8.5x-25x Mueller on a 204 Ruger and it holds zero very well so far. Just my 2cents, Good Luck!

+1 on the Mueller 4.5-14 APV scope. Great scope for the $$$ for a target .22. I plan on putting one on my ruger 10/22 once my bull barrel and boyds stock come in.

Pentax Gamemaster

Check out the Pentax line of scopes. High quality and life time UNCONDITIONAL guarantee. Accidentally run over it with your truck . . . send it in and they send you a new one.

I mounted a weaver scope on my Ruger 10/22 rifle have had it on there for 5 years or so and it works fine, they are right around your budget and their optics are made in Japan rather then China... Leupold etc will cost you more in less you get lucky on ebay or something. Midway USA has em etc.

I have a Mueller 4.5x14 AO mounted on my CZ452 17HMR Varmint and it has been a great scope for the money. I wouldn't hesitate mounting a Mueller on a .22LR.

To be 100% honest with you I am not sure if the Weaver scope hold its zero it could be simple because I keep changing between 100 and 50 yards with the .22 so the POA changes. However it would not be a bad idea to bite the bullet and throw a Leupold on there and have it set forever it won't lose its zero and its a high quality scope. On my other gun I simple removed the scope and have not remounted it at all because it wont hold its zero so I just use iron sights... And its a one time investment, you wont be tempted to waste more money and buy a better scope down the line you may actually save money in the long run...

SOSOS

Hello i got some questions here First off here im a competive shooter but im gonna start shooting small bore im a high power shooter i got a ruger 10/22 that i can put money into or just put a scope on my savage mark ii fvt target rifle im confused and dont know what to do i wanna get started practicing for the rimfire sporter match

The VX-I is far from a high quality scope. If you go with a Leupold go with a VX-II or above. That being said you can get much better scopes for the money. For .22's the Muellers seem to be getting great reviews.

Maybe I'm a cheap bastich, but I threw a Simmons 22 Mag scope on my Remington. I got a good deal on the 3-9x32 with adjustable objective, and this combination of scope and rifle is way more accurate than I am.

I have a Leupold VX-II 4-12x40mm AO mounted on my Mark II BTVS... Excellent glass...

Look at the Mueller 4.5X-14X with the A/O, at about $130.

+4 or whatever. If you want a large scope with a substantial power range, this is a good one for a range 22. I find it a bit large for hunting however and would suggest a 3-9x for that.... such as....

I like is Weaver rimfire series 3-9x AO. It is a very good scope, but costs more than the Mueller.

I just looked up the Mueller 4.5-14x APV and it looks sneakingly like the Simmons ATV I have on several of my rifles. I believe it's the same scope. If it is, it's a great scope!!! Simmons stopped selling them a few years ago, but the image quality is fantastic!!!

I'll buy one just to see if it is the same scope. My Simmons ATV (All Target Variable) has better image quality and brightness than most of my other scopes.

I have a Mueller 10-40X 44mm and it really is a lot of scope for the money. Highly recommended. I'm always happy when I come across a product that outperforms it's price point.

I was at the gun show this past weekend and after weeding through the THOUSANDS of NCstar products I came upon an Osprey 10-40X 50mm and spent about 30 minutes checking it out. I was pretty impressed considering it's not a premium brand. Even on the 40X it was clear with no distortion along the edge. Eye relief was manageable - turrets worked well, very positive feel. Claims are that they use Japanese Hoya glass - maybe not the best Hoya makes but probably better than most of the others. This should satisfy your budget.

So I ordered one from Natchez yesterday along with a set of Burris Signature Zee 30mm rings. Natchez is running a big sale on the Osprey and they gave a price match on the rings. Paid only $140 for the scope. Going to put it on my Savage TR - we'll see how it holds up! Should be here by this Friday.

Ahhh - you did say you only wanted to spend around $150 - right?

Also - Weaver is discontinuing their Nitex line and they are being sold at a deep discount with a $50 or $100 rebate. I bought a TR 2 the end of last month for my 10/22 and am very happy with it. Look at those too... The TR 1 should also fit your budget...
