Scope for .300 Win Mag

My brother gave me a Remington 700 .300 win mag, and was wondering what is a decent scope for this gun? Right now I'm hunting in California.

I have had the same exact gun for 5 years now and love it. This is my go to hunting rifle. I put a cheap-o leupold rifleman 4-12 x 40 on it when I got it and now 5 years later and probably 300 rounds and it has not changed zero. I have even dropped this gun once or twice in the woods. I know this scope doesn't live up to some peoples standards, but I've got absolutely no complaints. Got it for $250 at walmart.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't shot it yet, will be shooting it in a couple of days. Bought a limb saver for it. lol

I have a Vortex scope. They are in expensive and well made. I am going to put one on my 300 win. I have one on a 308 right now and it has been great so far for the last two years.

For a hunting rifle I would look at the Redfield 3-9x40 with ballistic reticle. They are a real good buy and backed by Leupolds warranty.

I wouldn't go too cheap on a magnum chambering, the recoil can be hard on scopes. There are lots of different scopes in varying price ranges. Depending on how much you want to spend. Some good ones I've experience with include.

Redfield~$160
Burris Fullfield ~$180
Nikon Buckmaster~$200
Leupold VX-2~$300
Leupold VX-3~$400
Zeiss Conquest ~$400

Any Leoupold variable, specifically, in the 4X12 range. With a higher variable you won't need a spotting scope to see 200 yard bullet holes.

My vortex is a 4-12 and it is nice at the range. I walk around in the field with it set on 4 and it seems to do fine. when at the range I can turn it up so I can see where I hit.

You can put a tasco on it if you want. If the bases aren't lock-tited and the rings tight, then it'll move. I've fired thousands of rounds through those guns and the story's always the same.
