Scope for 10 22

Good morning all

I have a new 10 22 in the waiting period here in the People's Republic of California and am looking for a reasonable scope to add to it. I have zero rifle experience and am looking forward to learning!
I am looking for something that will perform well at 100 yds and not break the bank. I can't justify spending more on the optics than the rifle at this point and would like to keep it at about $150 if at all possible.
I saw a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 Matte Nikoplex that was priced right.
They also have a base ProStaff 4x32 Rimfire Classic Matte Nikoplex that is inexpensive.
Would you recommend either of these or something else?
I can spend a little more if I have to (don't want to spend $120 on junk that has to be tossed).
Thanks for your help!

I think that one factor is; what you intend to use it for and even perhaps what model you have? I'm going to assume you have the basic carbine model. Both of the scopes you listed, are good but then there are soo many more choices that would be equally well. As an example, my squirrel shooter is set up with a 2-7 power and my target is a 4-12 power. ..... ;)

Be Safe !!!

The 10/22 is a great rifle, so topping it with a good scope is fitting. The Nikon is a great scope, in my opinion, 3X9X40 is the minimum that I would choose. 4-12X40 would be better, 4-16X50 would be ideal for me, not everyone though. Nikon, Pentax, Burris, Leupold, and upper end Cabela and Bushnell are all good scopes.

For the money, the Pro Staff isn't bad and Nikon has a great warranty but I've seen a lot of quality issues out of their rimfire specific stuff. In the same price range, I'd look at the Redfield's and the Meuller APV. Both excellent quality for the money spent. Based on warranty alone, I'd go with the redfield.

I agree with mrgoodwrench on the Redfield or Muller APV. I like a small scope on my .22 for hunting like a 4x but at 100 yards you will do better with higher magnification, 4.5-14x40 Muller, $130.00 ( China ). If it is strickly for bench shooting the Muller is your best bet in your price range and it has AO. If I was going to hunt with it and bench shoot I would get a smaller, lighter scope, Redfield 2-7x33, $140.00 ( USA ).

If most shooting is target the Mueller APV 4x14-44 is tough to beat edge to edge carity is excellent and on 14 power seeing bullets holes at 100 yards is easy, price about $129, for hunting the Redfield 3x9 or 2x7 is very good. I have 4 Muellers no problems with any, 1 redfield 2x7 also no problems.

FWIW, I have experienced a lot of QC issues with lower end (300 and down) Bushnell stuff lately so be aware. Their warranty is good, their CS marginal, but it sure stinks to wait on USPS.

The Mueller APV was designed with the rimfire shooter in mind. Adjustable parallax and a great range of magnification. Best glass I have seen in it's price point. There's a new APV tactical version with mil dots that looks interesting.
