So I'm working on fixing up a pre-war model 70. It has a rotary dovetail style base. I was wondering what you guys think about these bases compared to picatinny/weaver style bases?
I am assuming you mean single dovetail with adjustable bondage. They are awesome on rifles that have slight misalignment that needs correction. The only problem is they are prone to fail with huge scopes on high recoil rifles. The ears on the back base shear through the screws. It takes a hard recoiler and heavy scope for that to be a worry.
On classic/older rifles, I really like the rotary dovetails like Leupold and old Redfields. They just look cleaner and classier to me. Never had one fail, but never had them on anything more robust than a .30-06.
