Scope advice

Magnum Wheel Man,

One benefit is that, the company that is ordering the scope, they are scheduled to arrive at the end of this week. The scopes that you've listed are on back order. Well, all except one. I don't want to be terribly impatient though...

I was told that the minimum 6X will make hunting somewhat difficult. I have yet to hunt with a scope this powerful. How much truth is there to that?

Where I am in the SE, it is difficult. FWIW, I've taken deer w/ 6x at less than 40 yds, but it's far from optimal. The same shot w/ a 3x would have been a lot quicker.

The scope you listed is a great deal IMHO. Any particular reason you're going MOA?

6x isn't necessarily a problem. It's all in what you're used to using. I routinely have my deer guns set at 5x and almost never lower.

If your shots will be long, there shouldn't be any problem anyway. If they're shorter and you have "target acquisition" problems, it's an issue that typically results from bringing your eyes (head) to the gun instead of bringing the gun to your head. If you are looking at the target and raise the gun to your eye, you are still looking at the target, except through the scope. The only way you're not is if you moved your head to meet the gun.

Otherwise, I don't have any other recommendations for you. That's a good scope. There are lots of other good scopes but if you like that one, go for it.;)

I think you've got a fine plan - no reason to change, other than maybe weight - since it's a hunter. How much does that scope weigh? I hear good things about the value of them, though. 6x is fine for hunting open areas. But if you get into wooded bottoms, you'll wish you could go down to 2 or 3x.

one thing nice about the "new" Burris's coming out, is the 5 times magnification... will get you perhaps both lower & higher depending on the scope you choose...
