Scope advice, Howa 1500 .308, less than 500 yards shooting

Hello everyone.

I realized that I had posted some of these questions in my earlier thread about advice on a scope and mounts, etc.

I am about to be the owner of a new Howa 1500 Varminter Thumbhole in .308 (pick it up Friday) and I have decided on a Dednutz 1-piece mounting system. Now, after getting advice from several other members, was pretty set in getting a Weaver V-16 4-16x42.

But I'm wondering now if there is something comparable for under that price or in that similar price range (sub $300)?

I think the Weaver V-16 looks like a great scope and sounds like people really love it, but I just wanted to see if there was any other opinions out there.

Thanks.

I own a Bushnell 4200, and a couple of Nikon Buckmasters. All are excellent scopes. In fact, I replaced the Leupold VC-I 4-12x40 on my Howa 1500 Thumbhole Varminter (.22-250), with a Nikon Buckmaster (6-18x40).

My Bushnell Elite 4200 is 8-32x40, and it resides on a Remington XR100, Thumbhole, singleshot, in .308.

Good luck.

Interesting thanks for the advice. Any reason why you would suggest those over the Weaver?

And how much do these Bushnell 4200 run?

Still looking, but my eye is still on the Weaver V-16 4-16x42.

Looked at the Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x40, and for $50 more than the Weaver V-16, I'm not convinced that it's any better.

Still open to suggestions.

Thanks.
