School me on stock bedding.

I got a used Remington .308 in a McMillan stock. I mentioned it in the gun shop when I was picking up ammo for it. The clerk asked me how it was bedded and all I could say was,

"I don't know."

I have heard of glass bedding and pillar bedding but I must admit, I don't know anything about it.

No pics of the new rifle. Digital camera died.

Willie, in simple terms it is ensuring the action of the rifle is solidly mounted to the stock. Wiggle room under a receiver can destroy accuracy. Glass usually refers to using epoxy to fill in gaps and perfectly fit the stock to the receiver. Pillar bedding usually refers to some form of metal supporting the stock at the points where the screws fasten the two together.

No, it's fine to remove the barreled action from a bedded stock. You'll want to do this to confirm that it was properly bedded.
McMillan provides this service; or the PO may have done it himself. Either way, it's critical for accuracy and i'd be very surprised if it had not been done on a high end stock such as you have.
