I never smelled an unpleasant leather scent. But, I'm sure it cannot be changed, unless you purchase the liquid stain/color remover and redye the leather. I've done that to darken the leather and it is easy. But in your case, I'd return the holster.
Well...its either the dye or clear coat your smelling...not the leather. You can give it time or as a last resort, use saddle soap on it lightly to get rid of most of the smell.
My guess is the maker shipped it letting it "outgas" in the mail. Many times the clear coat is applied and it dries for a LLLLOOOONNNGGG time. It outgas's as it dries.
I make many holsters and ship them while letting them cure in the mail....hey, it takes 3 days with priority mail..so why not. But the smell is very concentrated at first. Give it a week or so and see how it is them.
Hope this helps..........Shoot well and god bless
The holster leaves black marks on my clothing, and leaves the scent on my skin as well as clothing.
I should say that I indicated to the maker that I needed the holster ASAP.
Thanks, Eric Larsen, for sharing your experience. Do you make holsters for the XD Tactical and the PT 145 Mill Pro.? If so please give me some details of your deals. Thanks.
