Scandium .41 mag?

New here, but, you guys seem to have a pretty good feel for the pulse of the gun industry....
Any idea why S&W hasn't come up with an L-Frame 5 shot lightwieght revolver? Seems that would be a pretty cool carry gun..Particularly with the lower end all lead loads. Might get a little frisky with the 210 gr SP though...

Welcome Sgt.
Do a search on Scandium. Fair amount of reports here on little ones. Not all is roses with some of them.

Sam....

I understand the Taurus snub can be a handfull with some of the hotter loads. No desire to go any lighter than that for most people. Besides, haven't seen much new from the other company (except Sc series). Also .41 mag is more of a cult round. It has a small following, but hasn't gained that much acceptance. I've been to the range many times and most of the people I've talked to there haven't heard about it. I'll usually let them try a few though. This doesn't make many manufactures want to add another .41 to their existing line. Taurus seems to be the exception.

BTW, welcome to TFL!

Sgt127 Welcome to T.F.L.

Smith & Wesson dose not yet make a Scandium/Titanium gun chambered for the .41MAG as of yet. They only make one .41MAG the model-657 with a 7-1/2" barrel, 6 rounds,52oz. Smith & Wesson dose make a .44Special, Aluminum/titanium Model-396 Mountain Lite with a 3-1/8" barrel, 5 rounds and only weighs: 18oz.
I own two, the Models-386PD .357MAG and the 360Sc .357MAG and I am very happy with both guns, very smooooth triggers!
This last Sunday I took my 360Sc and my Glock-27 to the range I shot my G-27 first and did ok. Next I shot my 360Sc and I only shoot this gun double-action, my 360Sc was more center and had much closer groupings then the G-27. ;)

The 415Ti Taurus is as close as you can get right now. I shoot recoil intensive guns on a steady basis and this one would be fun.
Shoot well

The problem with a scandium .41 Mag is that the frame is still aluminum, no matter how much pixie dust they sprinkle in it. There's no mild ".38 Special" load to shoot in the gun. The mildest .41, Winchester Silvertips, is as hot as most any factory .357, and they only get worse from there. Somebody'd be shipping a gun back for warranty replacement due to frame stretching every other week.

They'd have to do the frame out of one of two materials: steel or titanium. They seem to have conceded the market for titanium-framed guns to the boys from Brazil, however.
