SC CCW in car question

I'm looking for a little clarification. I have my SC CCW. I can legally carry in NC also. While carrying im my car, can my gun be:

1) in the center console?
2) in the driver's door pocket?
3) in the glovebox?
4) what if I have a passenger and the gun is in their reach?
5) any difference in NC?
6) does my handgun have to be concealed on my person?

In SC without a CCW, you can have a loaded gun in your car if concealed in the glovebox, etc. In NC, it must be visible.

Thanks in advance.

Here's the deal

In SC the gun must be concealed when in the car. ...

If you have a CWP it can be concealed on you otherwise it must be in the glove box or console. (I actually interprete the CWP as you can conceal the weapon anywhere you have access to it in the vehical, but I think the State's lawyers would disagree) But bottom line is gun must be concealed.

NC is different.. with no CWP the gun must be visible... with CWP it can be concealed.... and I think it must be on your person but not totally sure.

Can't be exposed or accessible by anyone but you. Must be "under control". If not in the glove box, console, or trunk, you have to carry it on your body (concealed). Try a fanny pack or shoulder holster if access or comfort is a concern.

This may be off the subject so don't slam me! I have vacationed in SC a few times. I'm a Georgia permit holder. Unfortuantly SC does not honor Georgia (the only border state that doesn't!!!). I keep my gun in my trunk when in SC. It may or may not be loaded probably will be. Is that legal? Only reason I really carry on road trips is if some jerk tries to prey on me if I have to change a flat on a back road.

My rule number one is not to get shot with my own gun, so I would suggest wearing the loaded clip and keeping the unloaded gun in the trunk. If you want to be packing while changing a tire, you will be in a "don't ask, don't tell" situation. A problem might arise if an officer might pull up and check on your situation and develop some reason to discover that you are packing.

If you are comfortable with it in the trunk

that is fine. I would prefer you have it loaded in the glove compartment... or center console. I think actually if you don't have either you can then have the loaded hangun in any compartment at hand and it won't be a problem. Also, historically in S.C. if you have just cause to use it, the law is not going to worry about where it was before hand.

If you have a flat, take it out and put it in the trunk as you change the tire.

Hopefully our brilliant representiatives in Columbia will get on the stick this year... but I'm not going to hold my breath on that one.

Our Attorney General has said, "If you let our permit holders carry in your state, your permit holders can carry in Georgia". My State Senator supports a "Full Faith and Credit" for firearms licenses. A firearms license should be like a drivers license.

"Real Gun Can't be exposed or accessible by anyone but you. Must be "under control". If not in the glove box, console, or trunk, you have to carry it on your body (concealed). Try a fanny pack or shoulder holster if access or comfort is a concern."

Duh....fanny pack is the solution. I never thought of that. I'll just keep it in the car all the time. Don't expect to see me wearing it outside the car though. We all know how cool you look with a fanny pack.

I have to drive around all day

and go into peoples houses. Even though I have an S.C permit... I can't carry into folks houses with out their permission and it doesn't seem prudent to ask, so the gun stays in the van. (personally I think this is a good part of the law.) My work van has no glove box or center console, I have a standard black satchal that I carry my notebook, other work items and pistol in.

I have gone too both sides

I used to Carry a colt trooper with 8" barrel..

Now I carry a Sig 230 in .380 cal. You can slip it into a iwb holster and then just pull part of your tucked in shirt over it.

as for the pack:
If you get away from these big big guns... I know a Ruger p95 will go in a pack pretty easily. I have a 'belly' pack that works pretty good.. bought it at a local gun shop for like $35 dollars so it's not one of these neon - million mom march freeby jobs but ballistic nylon black. Well made with zippers and no velcro.
