SBS and Sig arm brace are a no go

So I just found this on reddit thought I would share http://www.shootingsportsretailer.com/2014/11/19/could-this-mean-the-end-of-the-sig-brace/

Apparently atf just ruled no go for a SBS mfr to add Sig brace to his product. Guys on reddit pointed out two things.

First the weapon pictured was an aow, because of it fore grip, so perhaps the ruling is more appropriate for aow then SBS.

Second how this may affect the current ruling on AR/an pistols. Might the atf change their current policy

Food for thought guys

The AR 15s they are used on are pistols. You can not have a smoothbore pistol, and they said attaching a brace turns a "firearm" (which can have a 14" barrel) into a short barrelled shotgun

You can not have a smoothbore pistol
Yes you can. A smoothbore pistol is an AOW. Adding a stock to a AOW makes it a SBS.

The ATF is saying that if a AOW has one of these braces on it, and the brace is used as a shoulder stock the AOW becomes a SBS (an unregistered one at that)

Really? I read it to mean they were trying to make a nn NFA firearm out of it and ATF said it would become an SBS instead of a "firearm"

Yeah, you're right. They were trying to make a non NFA item.

The thing that has my interest is the fourth paragraph. They state that by using the Sig brace as shoulder stock it would be "remade, designed, or redesigned from it's originally intended purpose"

I think this ruling is flawed, and has very little to do with the Sig brace in the classical stance of keeping an AR/AK classified as a pistol. You can have a pistol AR. You cannot have a pistol smoothbore. They'really all considered AOW'so or SBS from the get go. True?

that website has three different stories about the feds taking away sig braces or changing the rule on shouldering them, but I see nothing relevant ar15's ak's, and each article is as scary as the previous. I have never seen more fear mongering on a "shooting" website

I will never visit that site again. has to be the poorest written articles I have seen in awhile
