Say it aint so Ruger Redhawk

Just finished reading the latest article in Gun World on the new.45ACP/.45LC Redhawk and on page 32 is a left hand view with the cylinder swung out. Please tell me the ugly hole in the side plate isnt for a key and if not what the hell is it there for?

It's difficult to know exactly what you're talking about without seeing a picture, but I think I might understand what you're referring to. Is it the hole in the bottom of the recoil shield (under the cylinder release button) as seen in this picture from Gunblast?

If so, that's the whole for the pin that the cylinder release pivots on, not a lock.

Thats it, the difference being that in the magazine photo the pin is slightly recessed into the sideplate so it looks more like a hole instead of a pin. Thank God thought Ruger had adopted the Hillary hole.

The pin is recessed, so there is indeed a hole there but no lock in it ;). It's nothing new really, about all Ruger DA revolvers have a hole in about the same place for the same purpose.

Thank God thought Ruger had adopted the Hillary hole.
The Blackhawk has the internal lock (the infernal lock!) but Ruger covers access to it with the plastic stock/grip. They show you right where you can drill a hole in your plastic stock to access it if you want!:D I'm sure that a hole has been drilled NEVER by ANYONE.

I was going to say the same as Sevens. Ruger is more clever than Hilary. They include an internal lock and a pad lock so you can take the cylinder out, put the pad lock through it, and have the gun double disabled. Two simple steps that are unobtrusive to the owners but enough to shut the lawyers down.

I'm not Ruger Redhawk, but it ain't so.

It's my understanding that the Blackhawk lock was only 'available' for a few years, and is long defunct...

It is my understanding that for a while Ruger New Vaqueros had an internal lock inside the grip frame covered by the grip stocks. It was eliminated several years ago, and the NV I bought new this past summer did not have one.

Don't know if the Blackhawks and the DA revolvers ever had any such lock.

S&W is too dense & clueless to get rid of their ugly "H-holes".

Wow, then maybe my Blackhawk is "collectible" since I have the silly lock that has never been locked (nor will be.)

S&W may be "clueless" but as the lock company OWNS S&W, it's a bit of a pipe dream to think they'd go away.
