Save one rifle case box,,,
In case you need to ship a rifle later.

I recently ordered three el-cheapo rifle cases from Cabela's,,,
$14.95 plastic Gun-Guard brand.

For some reason Cabela's sent them to me in three separate packages,,,
I started to toss the cardboard boxes when I had an idea,,,
What if I ever need to ship a long-gun for repair.

So I folded all three of the boxes flat and put them in the back of my gun closet,,,
Should I ever have the need to ship a rifle I'll pack it in the cheap case,,,
Then shove the case into this perfectly sized cardboard,,,
And nylon tape the living heck out of it.

It's anyone's guess if I would get the cheap case back,,,
But at least I know the rifle would be semi-protected in route to them.

Nothing earth-shaking here,,,
Just an idea someone else might be able to use.

I save those boxes too!

UPS will actually charge you more if the package is not enclosed in cardboard.

It amazes me when someone will ship a $2000 rifle in a crappy cardboard box with newspaper as padding. A $15 plastic Dosko/GunGuard/Plano case makes it look like the shipper actually cares if the gun arrives in one piece.

I've gotten more than one C&R item in a Plano case surrounded by cardboard. Certainly protects a long gun during shipping. I'd bet most of the vendors didn't pay for the cases, they came with something they bought, so the expense was nil.

When I've shipped guitars I went to a local guitar center and they gave me a shipping box for free.

I suspect a big box gun store might do the same.
