Savage synthetic stocks

I just bought a Savage 116 .300 Mag. The synthetic stock has about a 1/4 inch between the front of the stock and the barrel. Is this a common problem with these ? Where can I get a replacement stock ? Thanks !

I am pretty sure that's called "free-floated barrel". It keeps the stock from touching the barrel (only the receiver) and keeps barrel vibrations uniform no matter how you hold it or how much the stock warped due to humidity. I do not know how much effect it has on groups, but I did notice that my free-floated P14 (1916 .303 rifle) is MUCH better than stock, more collectible counterparts.
