Ok, I picked up a Savage Super Sporter in 30-06 today at a local gun show...I picked it up as a gift for my dad because he's been wanting a 30-06 and LOVES old guns...this one has a serial number of 15,7xx which leads me to believe it was later production because from the research I've done seems to indicate that only 16,000 were made... The barrel says "Hi-Pressure Steel-proof tested" & "30-06 Springfield"...the receiver says "Savage Super-Sporter"...it isn't drilled and taped for a scope, has a gold beam front sight and buckhorn style rear sight that doesn't fold down...it might have possibly been reblued but the lettering is in GREAT shape which would lead me to believe it hasn't been...the stock is probably a new stock but is in really good condition (it says "SVG" on the butt plate so maybe not?)...
My major question is my research says these rifles were only made with a single rear locking lug and could develop headspace problems...
My rifle seems to have 2 rear locking lugs...
I will try and post pictures when I get a chance...seems very weird
