Is it the same action as the rifle? If so, it seems that it would be a fairly simple matter (and maybe cheaper, too) to find a rifle barel in the calibre that you want, cut it down and crowned, and have it installed.
As I recall, Savage sets their headspace by screwing the barrel into the receiver (with bolt installed) until correct headspace is achieved, then tightening the big barrel nut, which, overall, is a pretty simple yet effective way to set headspace.
