Savage/Stevens 311...

I was up in northern PA this past weekend with my lady friend. She loves antiques, so we must have stopped at at least a dozen shops! Anyway, I ran into a gun shop near State College, PA. They had some nice older shotguns. I was particularly interested in some of the older side X sides. Had three really nice 311's, two 12's and a very nice 20. Reasonably priced too. Wouldn't mind adding one to my safe. Just wondering how effective they are on clay targets!

Maybe I should just drop the coin on one and start hunting again...

They were cheap budget guns made for the guy who only hunts or shoots occasionally. The internal parts are stamped from lower quality materials. They served their intended purpose, but most of those old guns have already been used up. If not you would quiclky use up any remaining life shooting clays with it. They were designed for a box or 2 a year.

I had one bought new in the early 70's. In the 10 years or so I owned it the gun was in a gunsmiths shop more than my home. I mean that literally. When I finally got it somewhat working I got rid of it.
