savage rascal?

old fart

i just saw these online, has anyone bought one or shot one? i think they would be better than the crickett even tho they cost about $50 more. thanks

While I like single shot rifles, for a kid's first rifle I would prefer a magazine fed design with a single shot adapter that would allow easy, cheap, upgrade as kiddo progresses. I thought Savage made such an adapter but now find only aftermarket units. CZ has adapters for their .22s and there are others.

For the record, the honorary nephew's MkII (southpaw) has been great.

i called savage they told me suggested retail was $174.00 for the rascal. i called my local shop and asked what they sell them for they told me they start at $199 and up:eek:. i guess i'll order one from my local wal mart, their cricketts are just $99 and my local shop is asking $179 for the crickett.

Can't tell you about the Rascal but can tell you I'm more than pleased with the Savage Cub Pink T I got for my little girl. Bought it new for last year's Christmas for $179 new at Big Daddy's in Billings. Lately though I've been seeing them for about $229 new. She's happy too and it's very accurate. She's not happy with just shooting gophers --- she wants head shots, and makes them regularly.

The gopher and the Jack were head shots. One of the biggest Jacks I've ever seen. She was plumb tickled with herself.

That's easy. Just keep the magazine until they're old enough. I don't know that I'd be afraid to get them a single shot anyhow. I still have the J.C. Higgins singe shot that my dad gave me when I was 7 and even get it out to shoot every now and then.

Hey now... I can shoot a pink rifle... I just don't want to make everyone so jealous

Tell you what, the way this thing shoots could make many people jealous. It was fun sighting it in. That little rifle can shoot.

A well made single shot adapter allows a round to be dropped into adapter and the bolt closed. The only requirement is bullet forward, rim aft. The adapter minimizes the dexterity factor and the nuisance of dropped rounds. I have found them worthwhile, both when working with inexperienced shooters and for my own use of shorts and Aguila powderless rounds that will not feed from unmodified magazines.
