savage problem

I recently bought a savage 112 .223 long action heavy barrell rifle. The problem is, the bullet gets jammed against the back of the barrel when I push the bolt forward. I have shot guns all my life but know nothing about them. Is this a common problem with this model or just mine. thanx

Savage

Dear Shooter:
Something is seriously amiss here! I don't think Savage ever made the 223 on the "long" action, (although I could be wrong!)
Savage is a very fine, well built rifle with accuracy exceptional, "out of the box".
The "long action" 223 is very suspect to me! Has the bbl, or bolt been changed, is it new? It seems questionable to me that the savage 223 was ever built with a "long action."

Yep, you are wrong about that. Savage only made a long action, the 110, for years. I had a 223 with the same issue. Just too darn much action for that round.

My Savage does that with HP bullets, but doesn't have a problem with pointed tips (which is what I shoot most of the time). I agree it's likely the magazine feed lips, but I haven't got around to tweaking with them yet.
