Currently its 9.25 for a Savage Model 10.
It might have changed if its a lot older.
243 seems to be 1-9.25 or 1-10
Long range shooting the longer the better assuming its from a rest. 26 inch is pretty common for that.
If you are hunting then the choice is how cumbersome your hunting allows.

what barrel length is best for long range shooting,
The longer the barrel, the greater the velocity that can be achieved (to a point).
But there are other factors such as barrel harmonics that don't guarantee better results with a longer barrel.
Barrel length is not related to "accuracy".
