I just got a .22 rifle for my son, it's his 1st and so i wanted to teach him about tearing it down and cleaning it before we go to have fun shooting it. I got 98% apart but can't get the bolt out or the reciever / chamber off the barrel... can anyone explain this or point me in the direction of a "how to" for this gun? I tried looking online but didn't see what i was looking for off hand....

thanks, Mike

Perhaps this, from Savage's site, may be of help:
Step 1 - Remove the bolt
*Each bolt is matched to its specific firearm. Do not use this bolt in any other firearm.

1.Placing one hand over the ejection port, slowly lift the bolt handle up and pull fully rearward to extract the live cartridge from the chamber (if there is one).
2.With one hand prepared to catch the removable magazine, pull the latch at the rear of the magazine, ejecting the magazine into your hand.
3.Look and feel to be sure there are no cartridges in the chamber.
4.Move the safety forward to the OFF SAFE (Ready to fire) position.
5.Pull back the trigger and slide the bolt out of the rear receiver.
6.Care should be taken not to hit the stock with the bolt.

Do not disassemble the bolt assembly.

yeah his doesn't have a magazine, it's a single fire from 1963. I tried their website first before asking here... thanks for the thought though.

Here's a picture of it, there isn't a way to remove the bolt unless you remove the barrell from the reciever assembly. I got it down to that much but can't get the barrell / reciever apart....
