Savage Model 12 Bench Rest

I'm giving this one a little consideration in 6BR. Anyone give it good marks? I've read this cartridge needs to be neck turned in tight custom rifles but I assume with this one you just load like normal without the need to turn the necks. I suspect that's for just tighter chambers.

ColColt,

It has been my experience with the Savage rifles (I've owned 7 and handloaded for 3 more owned by friends) that they have tight chambers and longer throats. I've never had to turn the necks on factory brass to get the shells to chamber, but on brass I've reformed from something else, I've almost always had to turn the necks down to remove thickness (where I usually don't on other rifles).

With the Savages, it has been worthwhile to buy a bullet seating gauge as well. The Savages I have loaded for (including a couple brand new in the box) have had longer throats (freebores) than I've found in many other rifle brands, and I seat the bullet out further to compensate.

YMMV. :)

I have the Hornady LNL OAL gauge for determining COAL in conjunction with their bullet comparator so that wouldn't be a problem. I take it the accuracy of these rifles are very good in general?
